Boudoir Frequently Asked Questions

OOOMMGGG you have soooo many questions! LOL I totally get it. Let’s see if we can’t get some of these boudoir frequently asked questions answered!

Where do I start?!

Dream Big! Start with something simple like a Pinterest Board or just a collection of images if Pinterest isn’t your thing. Once you have about 20 images put together, let’s step back and take a look at them. What do they have in common? Are they all black and white? Do they tend to be set at the beach? Are they romantic or edgy? These commonalities will help us create the perfect storyline for you. We can do this together!

What do I wear?

Rule #1 - Dress in what makes YOU feel good! Some people love going to Victoria’s Secret and buying all new lingerie and some people dig into the back of their closets and find their oldest, coziest t-shirt. I find most people do a combination of both. At the end of the day, its about what feels good. You’ll get more details in the Personal Guide once you book your session.

- I’m not comfortable in lingerie - do I have to get naked?

You may be saying to yourself that you don’t feel “conventionally sexy” meaning that you don’t identify with things like pearls, lace and lingerie. That’s the beauty of this process. You get to explore your own personality, sensuality and sexuality and identify what brings you joy. This is not something we usually do, right? You don’t normally sit there and THINK about what makes you feel. Its totally visceral, right? So you might see something and suddenly think to yourself, “Damn, that’s hot!” or you might get dressed (or undressed!) and think to yourself, "Man! I feel good!” That’s what I’m talking about!

If you are a no-makeup, jeans and a t-shirt kinda girl, then that’s how we shoot you. Check out how that looks for Alison here.

If you love false lashes, bling and glam, then that’s how your session is styled.

If you’d rather rock a Harley shirt with your biker boots, then go on with your bad self!

The possibilities are literally endless and the message here is that there is no wrong way to be yourself. That’s the point of all of this - just Be. Your. Damn. Self.

- I’m nervous!

Of course you are! That’s a good thing! Just follow all the steps, do the homework and have fun. I promise you’re gonna love this experience!

- I don’t know how to pose?

You probably don’t know how to change the oil in the car either, right? You leave it to the pros. So, just leave this to me. Any color. Any shape. Any size. Any whatever-hang-up-is-eating-you-up-right-now. I got this.

- I just need to lose another 10 lbs....

You and every other person I know! Listen, I can do more for you with lighting and posing than you can do with starving yourself. Don’t wait for “when” this or that. Just do it. Love the skin you're in!

- How far in advance should I book my session?

You want to book at least 1-2 months ahead. We want to have enough leeway to do the shoot, meet for the Image Reveal and get your products designed, printed, assembled and shipped.

+ Where do we shoot?

We will want to shoot in a location that works with your vision. We just have to think about what you want your pictures to look like. If you want all silhouettes, we can do that in the studio or in your home. If you want a romantic image of you on an oceanfront balcony, then by all means rent a hotel room on the beach and make a weekend out of it!

You can rent a hotel room or an AirBnB. Or you can rent this cute little boudoir studio I work with. Or we can shoot in your home or even a friend’s home.

Get creative! Maybe you know the owner of an art gallery or maybe you know someone with a cool warehouse. Or maybe you want to go a bit more risqué and shoot outside! Let’s do it!

This is all part of our consultation - I’ll help you hone down your theme and we’ll get just the right location.

+ But I have a Boudoir Emergency!

I’ve had calls for a Boudoir Emergency - one client was turning the big 3-0 and wanted to have her pix done that weekend - I was able to accommodate her with a quick-turnaround on a digital package so she could share with her boyfriend and friends and then we created the album after her birthday.

Another time, I had a woman who was just days away from having a double mastectomy and decided she wanted to document her body before going under the knife. I was able to move my schedule around and do the shoot in time. She now treasures these once-in-a-lifetime shots. View her story here

Just call me. We’ll figure it out.

+ Is makeup included? Can I do my own makeup?

You might have a flair for doing your makeup, but this is a special occasion! My professional makeup artist will be doing your makeup and that is your time to drink mimosas and relax! Besides, my MUA knows the looks that work best on camera - which is different than what you’d wear for a night out on the town. We do ask that you come with your hair done just the way you like it. My MUA will polish it off and get you camera-ready!

Plenty of clients don’t wear makeup at all in their daily lives and they feel apprehensive about looking ridiculous in their shoots. Don’t worry! My professional makeup artist is an expert in using makeup to even out skin tones and soften shiny spots. We won’t make you look like anything other than the best version of yourself!

+ Do you retouch and use photoshop?

I do light retouching - like skin smoothing, teeth whitening and eye brightening. If a little fold or a little bump appears because of a particular pose, I’m happy to give it a little swipe with the ‘ole Photoshop brush. I will not make you 10 sizes smaller, I will not remove 20 years from your eyes because that’s not where happiness lies. Your beauty is in your authenticity and vulnerability. You’re a badass - own it!

- Would a boudoir shoot make a good gift for my significant other?

Uuuuhhh... HELL YES! Can you imagine the look on your partner’s face when they open the album?! OMG. Phenomenal.

- How many outfits do you photograph?

As many as you can cram into our 4 hour session. Most people end up with 3-5 looks.

+ How many images do I get?

As many as you like! Whether you choose an album or the digital collection, you get as many as you like. I don’t charge by the image.

+ What do your packages include? How much should I expect to spend?

I have some gorgeous packages with albums and wall art that are my faaaaavorites! I also have an a la carte menu as well. Most clients spend in the area of $2500, but there are no minimums. You are welcome to create the package that works for you. The most important thing to me is that you have an amazing experience that you remember forever. We’ll go over everything in detail at your Image Reveal & Ordering Session.

+ What happens at the Image Reveal & Ordering Session?

About a week after your session, we will have the Image Reveal & Ordering Session. where we will pour over your images, select your favorites, and decide exactly what you want to do with them. Whether its a few prints, or a piece of wall art, or one of the Premium Collections, we will make those decisions at this appointment and then lock in your order with a down payment or payment in full. The design work begins processing once your order has been paid in full.

+ What days of the week do you shoot?

We shoot during the week. Weekends available at a $200 premium.

+ Do you shoot Men? Women? Couples? LGBTQA?

Yes, yes and yeeessssss! I’m a lover, not a fighter. I stand firm in my belief that this boudoir experience is for Every. Person. and Every. Body. Whoever you are, however you identify, its just perfect for this experience.

Straight dude loving himself? Yep. (See the G-Men series!)

Curvy woman embracing your masculine side? Yes!

Gay man? Perfect! (Check out Mr. M!)

A Couple looking to light your fire? Absolutely (Check out this couple!)

Super straight mom of 4? Let’s do it! (Laurie did!)

For real, people. Come as you are. Its all good. Bring me your passions, your loves and let’s make magic.

+ What about privacy? Do you share my images?

Your privacy is a top priority for me. I won’t even confirm or deny that you are a client unless you want me to! And as much as I’d love to share your beautiful images with the world, I would never do so without your express permission.

- But I have all these other questions!?

Once you book, you’ll get a Prep Guide with tons more tips and tricks. Plus a questionnaire to help me get to know you better, and, frankly, to allow you to get to know yourself. When was the last time you really thought about what YOU wanted?

This is truly an EXPERIENCE and not just a photoshoot.

You’ve been thinking about a boudoir shoot long enough….let’s just do it already!
